Sundays are the epitome of the 80/20 rule
Here’s a breakdown of a standard week:
1 week = 7 days: 5 days work + 2 days rest
1 day = 24 hours: 15.5 hours awake + 7.5 hours asleep (average/recommended)
1 week = 168 hours: 52.5 hours asleep + 115.5 hours awake
Of the 115.5:
Currently 40 hours working + 38 hours weekend/recover/relax/unwind/wasteful bliss (Friday after 5 pm + Saturday + Sunday awake hours) + 37.5 hrs miscellaneous throughout the week
For your consideration on how much to work: Take a week percentage allocation approach
Sleep 31.25% of the time sleeping –> 52.5 hours a week
Spend 10% of waking time resting/recovering/relaxing/unwinding/in wasteful bliss –> 11.55 hours a week
Apply the 80/20 rule to the rest:
Spend 80% of the remaining time working to further your career, your bank account, vision, idea, and others –> 83.16 hours a week
Spend 20% of remaining time doing what you love for you, your body, your mind, self indulge no matter what the potential ROI may be –> 20.79 hours a week
Many take their breaks all at once on Saturdays and Sundays, it’s built into society at 1.36x more than what they should to achieve 80/20 rule as many can’t account for the 37.5 hours of miscellaneous stuff they do.
Many don’t intentionally seek out rest and recovery.
Many feel guilty engaging in self-indulgence.
Here’s the insight:
Your Sunday is the great equalizer. It isn’t just a day to sit in front of a TV watching sports, recovering from a hangover or out on a boozy brunch; it is the difference between society’s norm of unconscious wandering and creating your life with intention. It is in this small spread of time that makes all the difference.
#thoughtoftheday: What if you spread your 80/20 out throughout the week when YOU wanted it, when YOU needed it, not when society dictated it as the norm. Where would you sprinkle your wasteful bliss? Your self indulgences?
