G07 – “Death” – Will this change your view?

How do you view death?

Is it something you’ve even considered?

The end is imminent and an act we all share.

Do you fear it? Leave it to your religious leaders (or others) to talk about?

Do you avoid it entirely?

Are you working to embrace it?

Its resolution provides the backdrop to present-ness by contrast.

What if your death was given a date? How would you handle it?

Here’s the story of one man’s experience:

I can’t help but watch and think his act of stoicism as a mask that covers his inherent fear.

This, contrasted with brief moments of true acceptance, of peace, only for it to disappear behind a false smile or grimace of pain.

But his message is clear:

  • Beauty and happiness are abundant and always have been, pondering death makes this more clear
  • No matter what happens, you can get through what lies ahead, even if what lies ahead is death

Does pondering your own mortality inspire in you a desire to do more? Be more grateful? Be more present?

For me it is a mix of emotions that waver between acceptance and fright, but things like this help me move towards acceptance.

How bout you?
